Posted on 29 Apr 2014
A new handheld electrical drill with multiple attachments and accessories facilitates neurosurgical, otology, and spinal surgical procedures.

The Anspach EG1 high speed electric surgical drill is intended to cut and shape bone, including the spine and cranium, and has a wide range of attachments, dissection tools, and accessories for greater flexibility across procedures. More...
The drill features integrated air-cooling, variable speed operation of up to 80,000 rpm, and minimal start-up kick. The system console houses the electrical components that provide power, control, and cooling functions for bidirectional operation, and a quick-coupling disconnect mechanism provides simple exchange of a range of attachments and tools.

Attachments include an oscillating, sagittal, and reciprocating saw, craniotomies, minimal access attachment and dissection tools, 45 and 90 degree attachment tools, and optional irrigation attachments. The device is also compatible with automated washing and sterilization. The Anspach EG1 high speed electric surgical drill is a product DePuy Synthes (West Chester, PA, USA), and provides 30% more power than the company’s Anspach XMAX and EMAX 2 Plus systems.

“We developed the Anspach EG1 System to provide power, precision, operational efficiency and ease of use across a variety of applications that require cutting and shaping bone,” said Ed Mackey, worldwide president of DePuy Synthes Power Tools. “Our goal is to provide surgeons with tools that perform with precision so that they can achieve the best possible patient outcomes.”
