Extreme Resolution Endoscopes Help Screen GI Disorders

By HospiMedica International staff writers
Posted on 12 Nov 2014
New endoscopes provide high definition plus (HD+) images for colonoscopy and gastroscopy examination procedures.

The Pentax Medical i10 Series HD+ endoscopes provide vivid and detailed images from inside the colon and gastrointestinal (GI) tract for close visualization, image enhancement, and high clarity detailed assessment of mucosal tissue. More...
Next generation imaging features include 140-degree effective field of view (EFOV) for optimization of full frame brightness, resolution, and minimized edge distortion; and a new CloseFocus range feature that allows physicians to get as close as 2 mm from the mucosa. Detail evaluation is recommended by using the i10 in combination with Pentax i-Scan digital postprocessing image enhancement technology.

A wide 3.2 mm instrument channel with a forward jet-spray, which has been coupled with an improved suction, provides enhanced therapeutic features. Other features include slimmer outer diameter scopes and shorter bending sections. The graduated flexibility of the insertion tube allows for optimal placement control, while an ergonomic operating handle supports greater physician comfort and control. The Pentax Medical i10 Series HD+ endoscopes are products of Pentax Medical (Tokyo, Japan).

“Our newest series of endoscopes represent the most advanced technology the industry has to offer the endoscopist,” said David Woods, president of Pentax Medical Americas. “With these and other solutions, Pentax Medical continues to focus on delivering technology and services that can help clinicians and hospitals provide better patient care with the highest quality and clinical and economic value.”

“The published literature suggests the accuracy rate of white light to be around 60%–75%; using Pentax Medical’s HD+ white light we found an accuracy rate of about 90%. It’s the first time it has been demonstrated that HD+ white light alone is very effective,” said Prof, Pradeep Bhandari, MD, of Queen Alexandra Hospital (Portsmouth, United Kingdom). “The i-scan further enhanced the accuracy and gave less experienced endoscopists much more confidence in diagnosing.”
