Innovative Anchor System Fixates Sutures to Bone

A new implanted anchor system helps orthopedic surgeons secure soft tissues to bone in order to facilitate faster healing.

The Orthopaedic Implant Company (OIC; Reno, NV, USA) OIC Suture Anchor System consists of implantable suture anchors and instruments to aid in their implantation, and is intended for the fixation of soft tissue to bone in support of a wide range of orthopedic procedures, including upper extremity rotator cuff repair and biceps tendon reconstruction, and lower extremity lateral collateral ligament repair, medial collateral ligament repair, posterior oblique ligament repair, patellar tendon repair, and iliotibial band tendonesis joint capsule repair.

The OIC anchors are full-thread screw-like devices manufactured from biocompatible polyether ether ketone (PEEK), with a vented design to promote increased blood flow. More...
Each anchor is 15mm long by 5.5mm in diameter, and has an eyelet at the top that is used as an attachment point for up to three #2 sutures of any brand, which are not included in the system. The system contains an instrument tray and instruments to fixate the anchors, including an anchor driver, a 5.5mm combined punch/tap, and a suture threader. All instruments are made from stainless steel and aluminum.

“The OIC Anchor System is a natural addition to our value based product offering,” said Petr Colwell, lead product engineer at OIC. “It offers surgeons the features they expect, while reducing the overall cost to their patients.”

“The OIC Anchor System marks OIC's entrance into the sports medicine market,” said Itai Nemovicher, President and CEO of OIC. “Our goal is to continue driving down the cost of care through each product line by increasing operational efficiencies, eliminating waste, and delivering clinically equivalent implant systems.”
