Immunoassay for Quantitative Analysis of Tacrolimus

Posted on 25 Sep 2001
An immunoassay for in vitro quantitative analysis of tacrolimus and metabolite in human whole blood is designed as an aid in the management of tacrolimus therapy in liver and kidney transplant patients. More...
Called Emit 2000 Tacrolimus, the assay uses the Enzyme Multiplied Immunoassay Technique (EMIT).

Tacrolimus is a calcineurin inhibitor with selective action on T lymphocytes and is used as a primary or rescue immunosuppressant. However, the drug has a narrow range of safe and effective therapy. Inadequate levels may result in transplant rejection, while high levels are associated with many side effects. Due to the narrow therapeutic range of tacrolimus and also because of drug potency, absorption variability, and compliance issues, drug monitoring is recommended.

The new assay is the product of Dade Behring (Deerfield, IL, USA). With this new assay, the company can now offer a broad assay menu of liquid ready-to-use reagents and calibrators on just one analyzer. This menu includes the Emit 2000 Cyclosporine assay, Mycophenolic Acid assay, and the Tacrolimus assay.
