Posted on 20 Feb 2002
A spinal implant in a rectangular configuration can be used in a variety of applications in the lumbar and thoracic regions of the spine. More...
The implant has been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The new implant is the second configuration of the GEO structure developed by Interpore Cross International (Irvine, CA, USA). An oval configuration was introduced in 2001. The device is designed to restore the biomechanical integrity of the anterior, middle, and posterior spinal column for a prolonged period, even in the absence of fusion. Made of cast titanium, the geometric structure provides high strength while allowing more than 90% void space for placement of a graft material.

"The GEO Structure product line allows us to address an additional portion of the spinal implant market in which we previously did not participate,” noted David C. Mercer, chairman and CEO of Interpore. The company displayed its line of products at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons in Dallas (TX, USA).
