The device has recently been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in laparoscopic abdominal surgery and total mesorectal excision (TME).

"The approval for use in laparoscopic surgery now allows the benefits of water jet technology to be realized in a wide variety of procedures, such as laparoscopic prostatectomy, laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, and TME. Erbe USA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Erbe Elektromedizin GmbH (Tubingen, Germany), a medical device company responsible for the development of the first electrosurgical generator and argon-plasma coagulation for treating gastrointestinal disorders through endoscopes.
