Hydrosurgery System for Debridement

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 26 Feb 2003
A new hydrosurgery system is designed to provide doctors with a single device that combines the functions of lavage and sharp instruments.

Debridement of traumatic wounds, chronic wounds, and other soft tissue lesions can be achieved in a single step with a single instrument, while sparing healthy tissue and promoting the healing process. Called VersaJet, the system is the product of HydroCision, Inc. (Andover, MA, USA), which is developing a broad range of fluid-jet based devices for multiple specialties.

"The VersaJet has changed the way I approach open fractures because it lets me more thoroughly clean the wound of nonviable tissue and contamination. If I can do that, then I can fix the fracture faster and with fewer trips back to the operating room,” said Dr. Lawrence X. Webb, director of orthopedic traumatology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center (Winston-Salem, NC, USA).
