New Magnetic Resonance Technology

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 08 Dec 2003
New total imaging matrix (Tim) technology is the basis for a seamless, whole body surface coil design that combines 76 integrated coil elements with up to 32 radiofrequency channels in a new magnetic resonance (MR) system, introduced at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago (IL, USA).

Tim is designed to improve workflow by virtually eliminating the need for patient repositioning and manual coil changes, while providing better image quality. More...
Tim's surface coil design makes whole body imaging possible in a single exam. The technology is embodied in a new MR system called Magnetom Avanto, from Siemens Medical Solutions (Erlangen, Germany). The company states that Tim provides the highest acquisition speed without image artifacts or restrictions in coverage, giving radiologists the opportunity to conduct advanced applications such as metastasis evaluation.

"Tim is to MR what multislice technology was to CT, so the impact on workflow and application options will really be quite substantial,” said Heinrich Kolem, president of the MR division of Siemens Medical Solutions.
