Ultrasound System for Doctor's Office

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 05 Sep 2005
A new gray-scale, two-dimensional (2D) ultrasound system provides excellent image quality, with features including digital continuous beam former and tissue harmonic imaging.

The Famio ultrasound system, developed by Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. More...
(Tustin, CA, USA), offers right-out-of-the-box use. The compact and mobile design of the system is suitable to meet the needs of physicians' office settings where space is limited. The unit was intuitively designed with practitioners in mind and includes the next generation of ergonomically designed transducers for excellent sensitivity and resolution from near-to-far-field in any clinical situation. Furthermore, the Famio's plug-and-play feature ensures the system is immediately providing excellent productivity.

"We evaluated several ultrasound systems before selecting the Famio, which had the best balance of excellent image quality, user-friendliness, and affordability for our practice,” said Dr. Katherine Thompson, medical director and founder of the Center for Medical Genetics (Marshfield, WI, USA).

The system's digital continuous beam former is a precise beam that minimizes side lobes in both the near and far field, considerably improving image clarity, spatial and contrast resolution, and providing excellent image resolution. The tissue harmonic imaging feature is a leading-edge technology providing excellent contrast resolution and reducing artifacts, which is suitable for patients who may be difficult to scan.

The ultrasound system provides a variety of support functions that expand diagnostic capabilities and improve exam efficiency, such as the ability to store image data on the integrated hard disk or CD-R. Furthermore, unconverted stills and cine loops from the image memory also can be stored the same way with Famio's DirectCine access, allowing post-measurement and off-line zoom.
