PC-Based Ultrasound Systems

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 13 Oct 2005
New PC-based ultrasound systems have proven to be a clinically competent and cost-effective solution for financially constrained Eastern European healthcare providers. More...

The Echo Blaster and the higher specification Echo Blaster 128, both developed by J.S. Co. Telemed (Vilnius, Lithuania), are therefore positioned to enhance Telemed's growth in the Eastern and also Western European medical imaging market for entry-level ultrasound equipment.

The Echo Blaster and Echo Blaster 128 provide clinical capabilities comparable to low- to medium-end black and white ultrasound scanners of leading global modality vendors, although at more economic prices. This has underlined their tremendous appeal as the suitable budget solution in the Eastern European medical imaging market. In Poland and Romania, for instance, the systems are very marketable commodities, predominately among fast-expanding private clinics looking to obtain the best clinical capabilities and the fastest return on investment.

Telemed was recently honored with the 2005 Customer Value Award for these ultrasound systems from Frost & Sullivan (Palo Alto, CA, USA), an international growth consultancy company. "The innovative configuration of standard PC notebooks with beam formers and the use of software scan-converters have underlined the high quality to price ratio,” asserted Martin Bryant, a Frost & Sullivan healthcare research analyst. "These devices can also be installed into the regular PC and enable the synchronization of all modules of an ultrasound scanner. They then send the ultrasound information to the monitor display in the real-time mode. These elements can be sold to other OEMs [original equipment manufacturer] for the construction of their own systems, which represents even greater performance value.”
