A new archiving appliance has been developed to help providers make the transition to electronic health records (EHRs) by creating a platform that takes existing files and moves them to a secure and accessible online environment.

Nexsan Technologies (Woodland Hills, CA, USA), a developer of secure storage systems, is launching its new archiving appliance designed to meet medical records and imaging needs at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society's (HIMSS) annual conference held in New Orleans, LA, USA, February 26 through March 1, 2007.

As the healthcare industry continues its shift from paper records to electronic versions, there is a great need for secure, searchable, and cost-effective HIPAA- (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996)-compliant storage and retrieval system. More...
Nexsan's new archiving appliance is a cost-effective alternative to tape and optical storage products that provides access to critical information on demand when needed. Medical data are safely stored through a secure storage architecture that takes an active approach to protecting the integrity of mission-critical information. The system exceeds all HIPAA standards and is designed to be interoperable with existing electronic medical records (EMRs), electronic health records (EHRs), personal health records (PHRs), and picture archival communication system (PACS) systems with support for HL7, Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM), and International Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) standards.

"The latest addition to our secure storage and archiving solutions has been tailor-made to the exacting specifications of the healthcare industry and is designed to both protect important information as required by law as well as providing the immediate accessibility that many other medical archiving products fail to offer,” said Brendan Kinkade, vice president of marketing at Nexsan. "We are expecting an eager audience of attendees at the HIMSS event who are looking for a solution that will meet their needs as they shift from antiquated records management to a forward-thinking electronic storage retention system.
