Hospital Connectivity Suite Integrates Patient Data

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 12 Mar 2007
A data connectivity suite enables the integration of data from any bedside medical device into any hospital information system, saving valuable nursing time, enabling clinical workflow automation, and contributing to improved healthcare quality.

The DataCaptor system converts medical device data to a common extensible markup language (XML) or HL7 format (a specification for a health data-interchange standard designed to facilitate the transfer of health data resident on different and disparate computer systems in a health care setting). This conversion enables easier integration with many types of healthcare information systems applications. DataCaptor device interfaces (DDIs) support the integration of information from all medical devices into a common data "bank”. An independent medical device connectivity middleware engine features one of the largest device interface libraries in the world, supporting over 330 different types of medical devices, such as patient monitors, ventilators, and infusion pumps.

The DataCaptor connectivity suite was developed by CapsuleTech (Paris, France), which received the Frost & Sullivan (Palo Alto, CA, USA), an international growth consultancy company, 2006 Enabling Technology of the Year award in the patient monitoring medical technology industry for the device, at an awards ceremony held in London (UK) in February 2007.
.
"Device manufacturers constantly upgrade their communication protocols and software, necessitating changes in the type of interface used to integrate the data from the specific device into the information system,” said Frost & Sullivan industry analyst Aarati Ajay. "Here, CapsuleTech has benefited from its well-established relationships with medical device manufacturers and has succeeded in staying ahead in product and software upgrades, by concurrently launching upgraded versions of the interface.”
