Posted on 28 Mar 2007
A medical disc system has new improvements for fast, reliable patient compact disc (CD) Digital Imaging, and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) diagnostic study output and distribution.

For physicians managing medical images, there is no room for error. More...
Timely information sharing is essential for rapid diagnosis and treatment. The new Medical Disc system, developed by Rimage Corp. (Minneapolis, MN, USA), features an all-new software package, completely hands-free operation, and a very high throughput. The system has fast, accurate production and integration with multiple modalities.

The Rimage Medical Disc System can handle the heaviest workloads from the busiest PACS operations, providing the fastest service to patients and physicians waiting for images on disc. Rimage partners with leading manufacturers of PACS, modalities, and DICOM software to produce the most unified and robust output systems on the market. These systems produce DICOM 3.0 Part 10 compliant discs, so medical professionals can view patient information on any Windows, Macintosh, Linux, or Unix computer, regardless of the original data source.

Rimage's Publisher software anticipates and automatically manages operating conditions and needs, streamlining workflows, and maximizing performance. Interfacing with any DICOM imaging modality or PACS system is easy. The Rimage Rapid API (Application Program Interface) makes it simple to author and implement customized systems for a truly unified digital output system.

Because of the reliability and advanced direct-to-disc printing technology, the Rimage Medical Disc System provides a very low cost-per-disc. The Rimage Everest thermal retransfer printing system costs up to one-third less to supply and maintain than inkjet printing systems, and disc imprints created with the Rimage system will not scratch, peel or fade over time.

The system features three different hardware options; each one has a powerful embedded processor, an integrated Everest printer, and a space-saving footprint for sleek, all-in-one operation.

The MDS 5100 is a compact design, suitable for modality-based patient CD and diagnostic study output. The MDS 5200 with plug-and-play network functionality is for use with large and small PACS installations for patient CD and diagnostic study distribution. The MDS 5300 is available with blue laser disc recorders, increased capacity, higher throughput, and the Rimage Publisher 7.4 software package for patient CD and high-capacity DICOM archive discs.
