IT Networks and Medical Devices Driving European Healthcare UPS Markets

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 28 Mar 2007
The healthcare sector accounts for only 10% of the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) sold in the European market in 2006, and therefore, is still a niche market. More...
However, its share is continuously rising in the overall market and it presents significant growth opportunities for UPS manufacturers.

According to Frost & Sullivan (Palo Alto, CA, USA), an international growth consultancy company, European healthcare UPS revenues grew by 7.5% and 8.7%, respectively, in 2005 and 2006. This market is registering such strong growth rates due to the different initiatives by the governments in the continent to modernize and improve the medical facilities. UPS systems guarantee safety and are even involved in saving the life of a patient by providing continuous power to the devices supporting the patient, avoiding loss of critical information and aiding in the smooth functioning of facilities and emergency equipment in the hospital.

"The main driver for the growth of healthcare UPS is the increasing digitalization and integration of patient information,” said research analyst Malavika Tohani. "This increase in data transfer means that any power fluctuation or failure can result in data corruption or even losses if no provision is made for a UPS.”
