Point-of-Care Computed Radiography Provides Enhanced Image Quality, RIS/PACS Connectivity

By MedImaging staff writers
Posted on 27 Mar 2008
The compact design of a new tabletop computed radiography (CR) system provides effective general radiology and dental imaging capabilities in a centralized or distributed environment. More...
The lightweight system can be used on a tabletop or on a Z-cart that enables users to take the equipment to the patient.

Carestream Health, Inc. (Rochester, NY, USA) developed the new Kodak Point-of-Care CR 360 system, which provides enhanced image quality and excellent connectivity with radiology information systems (RIS)/picture archiving and communication systems/(PACS) and other information management systems. The company presented this system at the annual meeting of the European Congress of Radiology in Vienna, Austria, In March 2008.

The new CR 360 system is now available for order worldwide. The CR 360 system provides high-resolution images with a wide exposure range and low noise. The system's new operating software provides a streamlined workflow, while its Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) capabilities allow it to be easily integrated with a variety of RIS/PACS systems.

The CR 360 system is designed for low to mid-volume imaging at hospitals, clinics, and physician practices, with a throughput of up to 60 35 x 43 cm plates per hour. The system has the ability to rotate, annotate, and window level an image. Optional quality assurance software can help facilities maintain optimum system performance and image quality.

The system supports standard cassette sizes and is available in 13 languages including: English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simple Chinese, Spanish (International), Swedish, and Turkish. A long-length 14 x 33 inch cassette is planned as part of a future upgrade.

Carestream Health, an independent company, has licensed the Kodak brand for use with its own brands--such as Carestream and Directview--across its range of leading-edge medical imaging and healthcare information technology (IT) products. Carestream Health is a leading provider of dental and medical imaging systems and healthcare IT systems; molecular imaging systems for the life-science research and drug discovery/development market segments; and X-ray film and digital X-ray products for the nondestructive testing market.
