Technology to Increase Yield of Bone Bio-Implants

A patented new technology called plexus allows bone tissue to be reduced to particulate and reassembled at the molecular level into virtually any shape or size. More...
The technology is designed to improve the utilization of donated human tissue and increase the yield of bio-implants.

The patented technology was developed by Osteotech, Inc. (Eatontown, NJ, USA), a leading provider of human bone and bone connective tissue for transplantation and a developer of implant products. The company first plans to use the technology to add plexus-processed bone tissue to an existing tissue form, allowing tissue to be used that would not normally yield this type of tissue form. Because of the plexus technology, the availability of bio-implants will no longer be restricted by the anatomical structure of the donated bone.

"The second phase of the introduction of the plexus technology is aimed at allowing us to further enhance the utilization of donated tissue,” said Arthur A. Alfaro, president of Osteotech. "It has the potential to increase the number of bio-implants that can be produced from donors by as much as 1500%.”
