Cryosurgery for Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation

The system has been cleared by the US Food and drug Administration (FDA) for minimally invasive surgical treatment of arrhythmia and atrial fibrillation.

Atrial fibrillation occurs when the two small upper chambers of the heart quiver. Blood is not pumped completely out of them when the heart beats, so it may pool and clot. If a piece of the blot becomes lodged in an artery in the brain, it can cause a stroke. The Cryocare Surgical System is the product of Endocare, Inc. (Irvine, CA, USA), a company focused on the development of urologic healthcare technologies.
