Product Innovations and Surgical Techniques Demonstrated by Podcasts

By HospiMedica International staff writers
Posted on 18 Feb 2009
A Web-based broadcast solution allows device manufacturers to demonstrate surgical innovations and techniques, lets hospitals communicate and engage with their community, and functions as a platform that connects consumers, physicians, and clinical staff across geographic and time limitations.

The OR-Live channel provides surgical broadcast solutions to hospitals and device manufacturers to enhance and extend their brands, and improves the effectiveness of their efforts to reach and engage target audiences. More...
A full range of services to develop, produce, and distribute all forms of video, audio, and multimedia communication is provided. Since the launch of the OR-Live Channel in 2001, a library of over 10,000 surgical and clinical video assets have been compiled, and each month over 23,000 hours of video are streamed to the more than 100,000 visitors. OR-Live's 400 videos on YouTube have been viewed well over 4 million times, and the site has documented surgeries ranging from heart transplants to gastric bypass and orthopedic surgery; in fact, 40% of the viewers are surgical candidates. Content distribution partners include the U.S. National Library of Medicine, The American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), Cook Medical, Ethicon, Medtronic, Zimmer, Mercy Hospital (Miami, FL, USA), Beth Israel Medical Center (New York, NY, USA), and many other manufacturers, hospitals, and medical associations. A full archive of past broadcasts and a comprehensive list of scheduled events are available at OR-Live.

OR-Live has also developed a patient education channel, designed to communicate complex procedures to prospective patients in a self paced, private environment, improving the success of surgical procedures by assuring the patient is fully informed and understands the level of commitment required for success. The portal is an Internet based solution that integrates directly into an existing website, or can be presented as a standalone micro-site. This allows communication beyond traditional seminar based patient education formats, enticing patients to learn what faces them at their own pace, and in the comfort of their own home. Beyond educational purposes, the portal also serves as a marketing tool, with comprehensive reporting features that provide direct and actionable metrics to understand how it is being used.
