A new ergonomically designed urology table with a fully digital system flat panel detector (FPD) produces an undistorted true rectangular image.

The Opus II Urology Information Management System (UIMS) FPD is a fully digital imaging system with enhanced patient access, exceptional imaging, and advanced patient data management system. More...
The table is constructed of carbon fiber, which makes it thin, light weight, and with a short tabletop and small table footprint, which provides easy access for both urologist and anesthesiologist. Despite this, the radiolucent tabletop supports up to 227 kilograms. The table can be changed to either a right- or left- hand configuration in a matter of seconds by simply exchanging the head and foot pieces. The open access design of the patient table also allows for isocentric tilting, which eliminates movements between the doctor and patient, and table position memory functions, including Trendelenburg movement.

The simple-to-use digital system provides zero-bladder cutoff, enabling physicians to obtain high-quality fluoroscopic images to the very end of the table, and visualize the entire urological tract. The system is equipped with a real-time, 40.6-cm quad-mode or 24-cm tri-mode image intensifier, and features fluoroscopic and digital radiographic imaging modes. The system is also available with a 43 x 43 cm dynamic FPD with over-scan capability that complements the brachytherapy applications. An optional bucky mode uses 35 x 43 centimeters film cassettes. The system X-ray head moves longitudinally and laterally, and provides three fluoroscopy modes (pulse fluoro, high-level pulse fluoro, and digital spot) for radiation dose control and reduction for both the patient and the staff. The Opus II UIMS FPD urology table is a product of Dornier MedTech (Munich, Germany).

"We are pleased to announce yet another technological advancement to the market. This addition is an ideal fit with our UIMS workstation development efforts,” said Brian Walsh, general manager of Dornier MedTech America. "We continue to expand our technology leadership for the benefit of the medical community, both physicians and patients alike.”

Urology Information Management System (UIMS) is a software system, which is picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) ready and can be integrated into any hospital or clinic. The system supports multi-modality images, with a graphical user interface that allows direct interaction with all functions, including image and data management. The layout is easy to use, requires minimal training, and is designed to streamline workflow. Patient data can be entered quickly and retrieved at any time using simple search functions. Comprehensive digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) functions are available using predefined protocols including printing, storing, query and retrieval, and worklist management.
