Sony Launches First OLED Medical Monitor

By HospiMedica International staff writers
Posted on 19 Oct 2011
Sony (Tokyo, Japan) has release the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED) medical monitor, offering absolute clarity during clinical endoscopic and surgical applications. More...

The Sony PVM-2551MD 25-inch OLED medical monitor is a next generation flat-panel screen that features full high definition (HD) technology based on “Super Top Emission” structure, and also comes equipped with an advanced processor that brings out the full performance of the OLED. The combination of these elements results in high-resolution, high contrast deep black color, excellent response to motion, faithful color reproduction, and uniformity. The monitor not only allows tiny image details to be viewed clearly in applications such as endoscopy and surgical monitoring, but also displays fluid motion of surgical instruments and hands, thereby eliminating stressful picture blur.

The PVM-2551MD presents a clean design for safety and ease of installation factors, such as a display surface and bezel that are completely flat, with rounded chassis corners to prevent dust building up and allowing easier cleaning operations. The monitor employs a splash-proof design, eliminating ventilation holes on the chassis top, thus preventing blood or drug solutions from entering the monitor. The monitor also offers a user memory function, which allows settings of up to 20 patterns of preferred color, contrast, and brightness; a “Picture & Picture” function that can display two signal sources on the screen at the same time, and a horizontal image-flip function, which is required in endoscopic operations to display the image according to where the doctor is standing.
