A new blood oxygenation (SpO2) sensor for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch provides accurate measurements, even during the challenging conditions of motion and low perfusion.

The Masimo iSpO2 Signal Extraction Pulse Oximeter sensor for use with iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch iOS v5.0 and above, allowing users to noninvasively track and trend SpO2, pulse rate, and perfusion index (PI),even during movement and low blood flow to the finger, such as in sports and aviation. The sensor uses the same measure-through motion and low perfusion Masimo SET technology as Masimo's medical line of pulse oximeters and Pulse CO-Oximeters. The sensor is equipped with a 30-pin connector cable and operates with existing iPhone power supply, requiring no separate batteries.

After purchasing the iSpO2 device and connecting it to an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch using the30-pin connector cable, the application will automatically download. Thereafter, using the sensor simply involves connecting the cable to the appropriate device, slipping the sensor on the ring finger, and waiting for the results to appear on-screen. The free Masimo iSpO2 app also offers graphical viewing of SpO2 and pulse measurement history over time, as well as sharing data through email via comma separated values (CSV) files. The Masimo iSpO2 Signal Extraction Pulse Oximeter and app are products of Masimo (Irvine, CA, USA).

“Masimo was founded on a mission to take noninvasive monitoring to new sites and applications,” said Joe Kiani, founder and CEO of Masimo. “The iSpO2 for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with 30-pin connector represents our first consumer product and should create myriad new possibilities with the goal of further empowering people.”
