By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 05 Feb 2001
Edwards Lifesciences (Irvine, CA, USA) has announced a new organizational design. More...
This design, states the company, aligns more closely with its strategy, better focuses its resources on increasing growth, and further strengthens it global franchises, which position it as a leader in late-stage cardiovascular disease treatments.

The new Technology & Discovery function will be charged with the central management of research and development, product pipeline and external technology investments, and driving key growth initiatives for the company. Global Franchise Management will have responsibility for product lifecycle strategies, brand management of medical technologies, and management of government affairs and reimbursement. The new Intercontinental Region will comprise Latin America, Asia, Middle East, Africa, and Central Europe. All field personnel and staff who have customer-facing responsibility for products in the United States and Canada will now be included in the new North American Region.

Edwards Lifesciences designs, develops, and markets a comprehensive line of products and services to treat late-stage cardiovascular disease. The company recently entered into an exclusive, multiyear agreement with PLC Medical Systems Inc. (Franklin, MA, USA) to distribute PLC's next-generation carbon-dioxide TMR Heart Laser system. TMR, or transmyocardial revascularization, is a therapeutic option for treating severe angina by creating a series of channels on the heart's surface to encourage improved blood flow.
