GE Markets PowerHeart AEDs

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 21 Feb 2005
Three models of the PowerHeart automatic external defibrillator (AED) line of Cardiac Science (Irvine, CA, USA) are now being marketed by the sub-acute hospital sales force of GE Healthcare (Chalfont, St. More...
Giles, UK) in the United States and Canada under an expanded multi-year distribution agreement. These models include the cardiac rhythm module (CRM).

GE is also currently marketing a private-labeled version of the Powerheart AED G3 PRO device under the GE brand name "Responder” outside the United States and Canada. The G3 PRO is an advanced AED designed for use by sophisticated users of live-saving equipment such as hospital personnel, medical professionals, and emergency medical technicians. It displays the victim's heart rhythm on a built-in resolution color electrocardiogram (ECG) display and gives professional users the option of delivering defibrillation shocks either semi-automatically or manually during the emergency treatment of victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Other advanced features include continuous monitoring capability via an ECG patient cable, multiple rescue data storage, clear voice prompts, and infrared data transfer.

"AEDs are clearly in demand within hospitals and are being used to treat patients in the nonacute care sections of the hospital,” remarked Brad Jergenson, general manager, clinical systems sales, GE healthcare. "We also believe that the Powerheart CRM, given its small size and unique capabilities for automatic bedside monitoring and defibrillation, will provide our customers with a strong alternative to traditional crash cart defibrillators.”
