Spacelabs Wins Bid for Middle East Contract

A global manufacturer of patient-monitoring systems, Spacelabs Medical (Issaquah, WA, USA), has announced a U.S.$1.8 million contract with the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh) to supply patient monitors to 14 major hospitals.

The contract calls for patient monitors, network components, telemetry, and ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) equipment to be installed in cardiac centers and hospitals in several cities, including Mecca and Medina. More...
Spacelabs was able to meet tight deadlines for the production, delivery, and installation of more than 300 monitors and other equipment, the key criteria for winning the bid. The company worked with Dr. Suleiman Al Sendi, director of Saudi Health Services (SHS), a distributer of medical equipment in Saudi Arabia.

Terho Hoskonen, international sales support director for Spacelabs Medical, attributed the contract to Spacelabs' responsiveness, close collaboration with the regional manager, and a strong relationship with its local business partner. "Thanks to Dr. Al Sendi and Spacelabs' agility, we were able to coordinate all aspects of manufacturing, export, and installation within the Ministry's time frame. Other determining factors were Spacelabs' connectivity and data access, our ability to connect both existing and new monitors under one network, and SHS's excellent record in after-sales service.”

Spacelabs currently has a global installed base of around 100,000 patient monitoring units. About 30,000 Spacelabs ABP monitors, the most widely used and referenced system of its kind, are in worldwide clinical use.
