New AI Tool Identifies Support Needs in Spinal Cord Stimulation

Detecting subtle changes in behavior or device use that precede loss of pain control can be challenging for clinicians and patients alike. Continuous remote monitoring can surface early signals but requires efficient triage to translate data into action. A newly launched artificial intelligence capability now offers proactive identification of emerging support needs by analyzing daily remote monitoring data from implanted systems.

BIOTRONIK Neuro has launched Embrace One Proactive Intelligence, a proprietary AI capability that analyzes more than 200 automatically transmitted, objective data points per patient each day from the Prospera Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) System. The model does not make clinical decisions or adjust therapy. Instead, it provides additional insight to the Embrace One Care Team, a group of clinical specialists who actively monitor patients between office visits. Using existing device data, the capability helps prioritize outreach and follow-up without adding tasks for patients or healthcare providers.

The Prospera SCS system integrates remote monitoring and remote programming to enable real-time therapy adjustments. It delivers a multiphase stimulation paradigm (RESONANCE) and is positioned as the first and only SCS platform to offer automatic, objective daily remote monitoring and remote programming. The Prospera SCS system is U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved and is available only in the United States.

New real-world findings presented at the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience (ASPN) Annual Meeting evaluated the AI model’s ability to surface patients who may benefit from proactive outreach. In a prospective pilot study, the model flagged 188 behavioral-pattern instances across 175 patients for review by the Embrace One Care Team. Patients responded to outreach in 80.9% of cases, and nearly four in five cases resulted in targeted support that included remote reprogramming, therapy optimization, and additional patient education.
