Advanced ICD and CRT-D Devices Improve Patient Care

A new series of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD) and cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillators (CRT-Ds) enables access to potentially life-saving magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans.

The BIOTRONIK Ilesto 7 series features ProMRI technology, which enables access to potentially life-saving MR scans when needed, as well as secure remote monitoring via a Home Monitoring feature. More...
In addition to the enhanced diagnostic potential, the devices’ also offer longevity advantages (up to 11.5 years for the single chamber ICD and 7.5 years for the CRT-D device), an optimized shape, and several other important benefits for both physicians and patients, including new, safer leads.

The devices are equipped with the DF-4 connector, a novel industry standard for the connection of a defibrillator lead to the generator. It aims at reducing the bulk created by two or three pins at the proximal end of the defibrillator lead and its corresponding ports at the header of the device. Having only one connection port between the lead and the device reduces the material in the pocket, the risk of lead-to-port mismatch, and may lower the risk of lead abrasion. The Ilesto 7 series of ICD/CRT-Ds is a product of BIOTRONIK (Berlin, Germany), and has received the European community CE marking of approval.

“With all our innovations, patient safety comes first,” said Christoph Böhmer, President of International at BIOTRONIK. “Our Ilesto implants and Linox Smart leads are designed to continue our tradition of providing products with the highest reliability. Furthermore these devices bring patients a number of important safety benefits, including a reduced risk of inappropriate shocks, stroke, and other comorbidities.”

“As patients get older and have comorbidities they often require MR scanning at some point in the future,” said Professor Paul Erne, MD, of Lucerne Cantonal Hospital (LUKS, Switzerland), one of the first physicians to implant the Ilesto device. “With Ilesto 7, I can ensure that my patients will have access to the gold standard of soft tissue imaging when needed, even with an ICD or a CRT-D.”
