Midsized Uretroscope Takes Care of Smaller Anatomy

A new endourology solution addresses smaller anatomies in cystoscopic and resection procedures, without compromising optical qualities.

The Richard Wolf U-Care line of rigid instrument is intended for treating adolescent patients that have outgrown pediatric instruments, but remain too small for standard ones. More...
The slim 2.7 mm diameter extended length panoview endoscope instruments ensure complete examination, with optimal flow dynamics that provide a consistently clear field of view and flat-field, distortion-free images. The system also offers a wide variety of smaller instrumentation that enables atraumatic treatment solutions and fewer complications.

The U-Care line includes urethrotomes, cystoscopes, and resectoscopes, and is available in slender 4.25 or 4.75 mm outer sheaths with a 190 mm working length, thin enough to enable optimum treatment for patients who have smaller anatomy, but with a longer reach than standard pediatric-sized instruments. Instrumentation options include foreign body forceps, biopsy forceps, scissors, a passive cutting action working element, coagulation, cutting, and hook electrodes, and various shaped stricture scalpels. The U-Care line of products is manufactured by Richard Wolf Medical Instruments Corporation (RWMIC; Vernon Hills, IL, USA).

“Typically, physicians have to choose between instrumentation that may be too large or too small for the patients they are treating. With this product, we are providing urologists the right size tools to perform these procedures for every patient,” said Monica Sanders, corporate director of marketing for RWMIC. “The benefits of right-sizing to the patient make the U-Care line a critical breakthrough in patient comfort and physician care.”

“In a time where there is an increasing incidence of stone disease in the pediatric population, the need for finer and smaller caliber scopes has never been greater,” said Anand Palagiri, MD, director of pediatric urology at Mercy Clinic (St. Louis, MO, USA). “The craftsmanship, durability, and quality of the Richard Wolf pediatric endoscopic line has made treating pediatric stone disease easy, safe, and extremely successful.”
