Noninvasive Brain Stimulator Enhances Patient Safety

By HospiMedica International staff writers
Posted on 18 Dec 2013
A novel neuromodulation system comes with fully integrated electrodes, headgear, and electronics to ensure rigorous and consistent protocols.

The MOBILE neuromodulation system is an investigational noninvasive brain stimulation device for susceptible populations, including stroke, pediatric, and traumatic brain injury (TBI) sufferers. More...
The system is equipped with proprietary transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) Limited Total Energy (LTE) technology, optimized for low-energy neuromodulation. Compliance and safety of the system is achieved through serial distribution of patient discharge-keys, programmed to provide five timed sessions of therapy; the discharge-keys are also cloud enabled, allowing remote physician supervision.

Each patient receives a customized headgear with an integrated stimulator and accessory packs that include five pairs of proprietary EASYfit or high-definition electrodes, ensuring consistent therapy and removing the potential for patient error. An exclusive online analysis algorithm ensures proper set-up and use. The MOBILE neuromodulation system is a joint development of Soterix Medical (New York, NY, USA), Rogue Resolutions (Cardiff, United Kingdom), and neuroConn (Ilmenau, Germany), and is expected to be deployed into major clinical trials throughout 2014.

“The next generation EASYstrap customized to work with the MOBILE is the most robust and simple head-gear we have designed,” said Abhishek Datta, PhD, CTO of Soterix Medical. “Patients receive controlled supplies of electrodes and discharge-keys that are preprogrammed, while the MOBILE stimulator includes the most intelligent monitoring systems available to ensure proper set-up; the stimulator itself has just one button.”
