Software Developed to Support Super High Resolution Mammography Display

New software has been developed to support a very high-resolution mammography display.

(Honolulu, HI, USA), a developer of customizable picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), has released a new version of its Mammo ViewBox software to support a super high-resolution mammography display from Totoku Electric Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan). The new software was introduced at the annual meeting of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) in Seattle May 15-18, 2008.

According to Philip J. Manly, chief executive officer of Connect Imaging, the company's mammography workstation software is the first to support the ISD technology of the Totoku MS51i2 digital mammography display. "Totoku developed a novel way to triple the resolution of its five megapixel monitor, but taking advantage of the higher resolution required some software changes,” Mr. Manly said. "Connect Imaging made these necessary modifications a priority. We now can offer this workstation software to all users of digital mammography. Though it works most efficiently when combined with other mammography modules in the Connect Imaging PACS [picture archiving and communications system], our Mammo ViewBox workstation software is compatible with any DICOM [Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine] archive.”

Madhu Reddy, president of U.S. Electronics, Inc. (Minneapolis, MN, USA), Totoku's leading worldwide distributor, said, "We believe this display is a significant improvement over standard five megapixel mammography displays, even those that can display 10 bits of grayscale. We talked with several PACS companies about the software changes that would be necessary to support the higher resolution. Connect Imaging responded immediately, and is now the first PACS company to release software that supports our new monitor.”

Connect Imaging provides customized PACS to meet the needs of imaging centers, smaller hospitals, and specialty practices such as mammography, perinatology, and mobile imaging services. It recently released four separate PACS modules designed specifically for the workflow of mammography imaging practices.
