Polyaxial Spine System Corrects Spinal Deformities

By HospiMedica International staff writers
Posted on 05 Oct 2009
An ultra low profile spinal system is designed to treat long or complex deformities or curvatures such as scoliosis, kyphosis, or lordosis.

The PASS LP Spinal System includes a range of polyaxial anchorages such as pedicle screws, sacral plates, hooks, claws, rods, rod-plates, sacral and iliac screws and a variety of active connectors that permit realignment of vertebrae following a fracture or three-dimensional (3D) correction of vertebral axial rotation in deformities. The rods are prebent to the desired curve in the sagittal plane, and progressive reduction of the deformity is achieved by alternately tightening all the nuts on both rods at the same time, significantly reducing the stress applied on the screws and hooks. Adequate reduction can also be achieved by evenly distributing forces applied to both rods at the same time, thus limiting excessive load and stress on the anchorage points.

The PASS LP Spinal System is a product of Medicrea (Neyron, France), and is also indicated for degenerative disc disease (DDD), spondylolisthesis, trauma, spinal stenosis, tumor, pseudoarthrosis, and failed previous fusion. The PASS LP Spinal System has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as has the recently introduced PASS LP Iliac Fixation device.

"The launch of the PASS LP Iliac Fixation will increase significantly PASS LP sales in coming months as it allows Medicrea to complete its product line for deformity treatment - an over US$400 million segment out of the $6,5 billion total US market for spinal implants,” said Denys Sournac, president and CEO of Medicrea.
