Flexible Knee Prosthesis Launched

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 11 Apr 2001
A new total knee endoprosthesis has been launched that gives surgeons the opportunity to address many different indications with a single system.

Technologies have been incorporated into the knee system that improve the articulation of the prosthesis as well as its fixation in the bone, reducing the surgery and instrumentation needed for implantation. More...
The knee is implanted with an innovative surgical instrument that enables the surgeon to precisely prepare the tibial and femoral bones for the fixation of the prosthesis.

Called Innex, the prosthesis is the product of Sulzer Medica (Wintherthur, Switzerland) and was developed in close cooperation with scientists from the Clinic Wilhelm Schulthess in Zurich (Switzerland). "Innex simplifies not only the surgery, it also enhances the flexibility, is implanted with greater precision and may thus shorten the duration of the rehabilitation for the patient, who may faster regain his natural freedom of movement,” said Dr. Tomas Drobny of the Clinic Wilhelm Schulthess.
