New Tools for Treatment of Peripheral Vascular Disease

Two new devices offer an innovative endovascular approach to treating chronic total occlusions (CTOs) in peripheral arteries.

The Viance Crossing Catheter is designed to quickly and safely deliver a guidewire via the true lumen or subintimal pathways, utilizing finesse rather than force to cross. More...
With the aid of an atraumatic, low-profile tip, the device remains within the true lumen, allowing for more treatment options. In cases where the device tracks into the subintimal space, it creates a very small channel, helping to facilitate reliable re-entry. The multicoiled wire shaft results in 1:1 torque for predicable response, and a fast spin torque handle enables the physician to spin the device quickly to transfer torque.

The Enteer Re-entry System consists of a catheter and guidewire, enabling the physician to target reliably the true lumen from the subintimal channel, above or below the knee. The catheter's unique, flat shape self-orients in the subintimal space, helping to enable reentry without complete reliance on visualization. An angled reentry probe at the guidewire tip engages the intima to enter true lumen, and a unique balloon shape self-orients within the vessel for true lumen targeting; 180° opposed and offset exit ports enable selective guidewire reentry.

The Viance Crossing Catheter and the Enteer Re-entry System are products of Covidien (Dublin, Ireland), and are designed to enable access to the distal end of a lesion, allowing physicians to treat even the most challenging lesions endovascularly.

“Covidien now offers a unique solution for the treatment of CTOs,” said Brian Verrier, vice president and general manager of peripheral vascular products at Covidien. “By adding these products to our market-leading peripheral portfolio, we strive to demonstrate our commitment to advancing the treatment of vascular disease worldwide by delivering innovation that achieves both clinical and economic value for our healthcare partners.”
