New Tools Aid Neurologic Surgeons

Called the NeuraGen Nerve Guide, the implant provides a protective environment for peripheral nerve repair after injury and a conduit through which regenerating axons can bridge the injury.

Another new tool is an advanced fiber optic intercranial pressure (ICP) monitoring and drainage catheter, designed to channel fluid away from the brain. Called the Ventrix True Tech catheter, the device was launched at the annual Congress of Neurological Surgeons in San Diego (CA, USA). The catheter provides the neurosurgeon with an advanced ICP monitoring system that allows for the proven clinical method of tunneling fluid away from the brain, similar to fluid-filled systems.

Both of these new tools are the products of Integra LifeSciences (Plainsboro, NJ, USA) and both have been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Integra also markets a line of cranial access kits, ventricular catheters, and external ventricular drainage systems as well as needle-free ports and safety syringes.
