Spinal Implant for Middle or Lower Anterior Spine

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 04 Dec 2001
A new spinal implant intended for the middle or lower portion of the anterior spine can be used to replace a vertebral body that must be removed due to a tumor, to restore the height of a collapsed vertebral body, or to treat fractures. More...
The implant has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Called the Telescopic Plate Spacer Thoracolumbar Spinal System Implant (TPS-TL), the implant is designed to restore the biomechanical integrity of the affected part of the spine without supplemental fixation, even if the bone does not fuse for a prolonged period, and to achieve decompression of the spinal cord and associated nerves. The TPS-TL combines the functions of a plate and a vertebral column spacer and incorporates a telescopic feature. The design allows screws to access the best quality bone in the vertebral bodies above and below the removed vertebra.

The TPS-TL is the product of Interpore Cross International (Irvine, CA, USA). The implant is similar in design to the company's TPS-C implant designed for the cervical spine. Interpore designs and manufactures spinal products used to treat degenerative conditions, deformities, and trauma of the spine.
