Water-Jet Surgical System Preserves Organs and Vessels

New water-jet technology offers a platform for surgical and endoscopic applications. More...
Because of its precise method of operation, the water-jet method of surgery is appropriate for the dissection and preparation of tissue where sensitivity and selectivity are important.

Clinical studies involving liver resection, urology surgery, ear-nose-and-throat (ENT) surgery, and laparoscopy have demonstrated that an important advantage of water-jet surgery is the preservation of organs, blood vessels, and nerves. The water-jet system, called Hydro-Jet, shows high selectivity when separating tissue. Because the procedure has no thermal or mechanical effect on surrounding structures, organs are preserved and patients often have a better recovery.

In addition, the type of hemostasis achieved clearly reduces blood loss, even in organs with a high blood flow such as the liver. Delicate colon surgery procedures can be performed with minimal trauma to blood vessels and nerves. The Hydro-Jet completes the range of products and services for electrosurgery and cryosurgery offered by Erbe Elektromedizin GmbH (Tubingen, Germany). Users have a choice of numerous handpieces and applicators for different applications.
