Embolic Filter Aids Treatment of Arterial Blockage

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 03 Jun 2002
A new embolic protection device is designed for use in the treatment of arterial blockages in the coronary and peripheral arteries. More...
The device was introduced at the Paris Course on Revascularization (PCR, France), a conference for doctors specializing in endovascular therapies.

Called the Rubicon Filter, the device is intended to be easier to use than existing devices and is the smallest known embolic protection device in existence, states the developer, Rubicon Medical Corp. (Salt Lake City, UT, USA). The filter recently completed feasibility testing at the Utah Artificial Heart Institute.

"Our team has worked hard to develop the filter to the point where we feel it presents a significant advantage over competing devices,” said Richard J. Linder, president and CEO of Rubicon Medical. The company develops and makes interventional medical devices and products, focusing on minimally invasive endovascular techniques and products.
