Autoclavable Camera System Aids Surgeons

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 10 Jun 2002
A new autoclavable three-chip endoscopic camera and detachable coupler are designed to withstand the rigors of steam autoclaving without sacrificing quality or performance.

The new system was developed to meet the requirements of surgeons who have expressed the Dr. More...
James Grimes, Flagler Hospital (St. Augustine, FL, USA). "Smith & Nephew's new 3-chip need for improved ergonomic design of autoclavable camera heads. The system is intended to maximize comfort and minimize surgeon hand fatigue through a lightweight design and optimized center of gravity. A detachable coupler makes the camera system compatible with standard direct-view endoscopes. The camera was developed by Smith & Nephew, Inc. Endoscopy Division (Andover, MA, USA).

"Traditional one-chip autoclavable cameras and others currently available simply do not provide the color quality, image resolution, and ergonomic level I need in surgery,” said autoclavable system definitely fills the void for me and my fellow surgeons, while reducing long-range capital equipment investments.”
