Software Enables Imaging Workstation to Handle X-Ray Data

The new use has been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Called V3D Explorer, the visualization software already supports the use of computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MR), positron emission tomography (PET), and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). The V3D workstation can easily process large and small radiology studies. The multipurpose workstation accepts DICOM compliant images from a number of modalities, permitting radiologists to visualize patient studies in any 2D/3D projection for better understanding of anatomical relationships and pathologic conditions.

"The V3D Explorer workstation is a single solution that empowers the radiologist to not only efficiently evaluate CT, MR, PET, and SPECT images but also images from the new wave of digital x-ray systems and all forms of digital radiography,” said David Barnitt, CEO of Viatronix, Inc. (Stony Brook, NY, USA), which developed the visualization software. The company's V3D-Colon software allows doctors to interactively view the colon reconstructed from a CT scan, while the V3D-Calcium Scoring helps doctors determine the amount of calcium plaque in coronary arteries.
