Critical Care Information System

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 23 Dec 2003
A critical care information system that automatically collects and charts physiologic data from patient monitors, bedside devices, and laboratory information systems is designed to save caregivers' time and avoid transcription errors.

The system, called CareVue Chart, is based on Microsoft Windows and can be accessed from a variety of clinical systems and PC platforms, including wireless tablet PCs remotely from home, at the bedside, or even directly from a patient monitor. More...
The product of Philips Medical Systems (Best, The Netherlands; www.medical.philips.com), CareVue Chart provides much of the comprehensive clinical content as the original CareVue system but also has enhancements. Users have the ability to set "soft” and "hard” bounds of physiologic parameters so that when bounds are exceeded, the system highlights the appropriate value. CareVue Chart can also be customized according to patient type (neonatal, pediatric, or adult). The system is designed to virtually eliminate the need for paper charts and facilitates treatment decisions by creating clinical reports to benchmark care processes.

"CareVue Chart represents Philips' dedication to ensuring that today's critical care environments are equipped with integrated and customized patient care applications and data management tools for fast, informed decision-making right at the point of care, from anywhere in the hospital, or even remote locations,” said Ken Ferry, senior vice president and general manager, patient monitoring, Philips Medical Systems.
