The first critical care information technology system (IT) resulting from the collaboration of Siemens Medical Solutions (Erlangen, Germany) and Draeger Medical (Lubeck, Germany) combines the critical care charting capabilities of Draeger's ChartAssist with the Invision system of Siemens.

Designed to integrate clinical results, reports, and critical care information, Invision ChartAssist automatically collects data from bedside devices such as patient monitors and ventilators, creating an electronic patient flowsheet and integrating it into the Invision electronic heath record. The following results were found after use by the Nebraska Heart Institute Hospital (Lincoln, USA): improved efficiency in patient care and therapeutic intervention through anytime-anywhere access to patient information, elimination of paper-based charting, and support for team-based care delivery by integrating the right information at the same time from any location in the critical care setting.

"With ChartAssist, vital sign charting is done automatically at the bedside, requiring much less time for nurses,” said Janet Huenink, RN, MSN, leader of the Nursing Services team at Nebraska Heart Institute. "Because nurses no longer need to search for and gather information from multiple sources, they can spend more time with patients and their families.”
