Handheld Pulse Oximeter With SET

Posted on 30 Mar 2004
A handheld oximeter incorporates signal extraction technology (SET), making the device ideal for use as a spot check or for continuous monitoring during transport, for sleep apnea diagnosis, or for use in a doctor's office.

It offers a user friendly interface, multiple-day trending, and lower cost. In addition, Rad-5 is equipped with FastStart, which allows measurements to be taken quickly after power is on. FastSat is an optional mode that tracks even brief desaturations. PAI (pulse amplitude index) tells the clinician the strength of the pulse signal, while SQ (signal quality) indicates the quality of the detected signal, alerting the clinician when the signal quality may be compromising a measurement.

"We sampled the Rad-5 and were very impressed,” said Scott Wiley, director of respiratory care at the NCH Healthcare System, Naples (FL, USA). "Its power and size will help us in several patient care areas, such as all of our nursing units, our cardiac and pulmonary rehab departments, and we will certainly use it for transport as well.”
