Oxygen Masks That Simplify Monitoring

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 31 Oct 2005
A new range of oxygen masks and nasal cannulae are designed to simplify the assessment and monitoring procedures for patients requiring additional inspired oxygen.

These patients, who need more-efficient delivery of oxygen to their tissues, include people suffering from respiratory failure following anesthetic procedures and those in shock due to trauma, blood loss, or heart disease.

Inadequate methods of assessment and monitoring have sometimes resulted in patients with chronic ventilatory failure being given inappropriately high concentrations of oxygen and hypoxic patients being given concentrations that are too low. More...
Both of these errors can worsen patients' conditions. To solve this problem and ensure that patients receive oxygen in the correct concentrations, the new range of oxygen masks and nasal cannulae has been simplified while the connectivity of various components has been increased, making them more cost-effective. The new line was developed by Unomedical Ltd. (Redditch, UK).

The masks and nasal cannulae are quick and easy to prepare and apply to the patient. Manufactured from high-quality materials that are all latex-free, they eliminate any risk of allergic reaction. Because the materials are also transparent, soft, and flexible, they not only enable a patient's condition to be easily monitored but also provide a more comfortable fit for the patient.

The range includes low, medium, fixed, and high-concentration delivery systems. The Combi mask is a versatile oxygen mask that can be used with a nebulizer as a medium concentration mask and as a low-fixed concentration mask when used in conjunction with venturi jets. The range also includes a range of nebulizers for tracheobronchial deposition.
