Nonin Launches Low-Power OEM Pulse Oximeter

By HospiMedica International staff writers
Posted on 18 May 2011
A new pulse oximeter offers a lower power draw and a broader voltage range to help medical monitoring manufacturers develop even smaller, lighter, and more portable monitoring devices.

The Nonin Xpod, Model 3012LP original equipment manufacturer (OEM) pulse oximeter provides an easy way to add pulse oximetry as an optional parameter to medical monitoring device manufacturers' new or existing medical devices. More...
The device saves space inside the monitor by attaching externally, thus enabling the manufacturers to choose a sensor for any patient application. The device also interfaces with the Nonin PureLight disposable and reusable sensors, and offers multiple data formats to meet the varied needs of customers' OEM oximetry applications.

Key product features include a lower power draw, with about 50% less power than the original Xpod, Model 3012; an expanded input voltage range, capable of operating within a voltage range of 1 V - 5.5 V, suited for portable and battery operated devices; early compliance to the new lead-free standard; and enhanced safety and water ingress standards. The device also features a high-resolution Pulse Pattern Generator (PPG) pulse waveform, ideal for signal analysis applications. Expanded data formats can be selected by an external resistor or software command, with the host device choosing data formats to meet product needs. To save developers time, a reliable, low profile, cost effective Mini-12 standard connector is standard. The Nonin Xpod, Model 3012LP is a product of Nonin Medical (Minneapolis, MN, USA).

"The Xpod, Model 3012LP consumes half of the power of our first-generation Xpod, while delivering the accuracy, reliability, and ease of integration that OEM customers have come to expect from Nonin,” said Kevin McGowan, vice president of sales at Nonin Medical. "The new model also features a low noise voltage regulator designed to reduce noise coming from the power supply and ensure high performance and accurate readings, even in challenging conditions.”
