Multifunction Platform Aids Cardiovascular Diagnostics

By HospiMedica International staff writers

A next-generation health assessment system could provide low cost, noninvasive cardiovascular (CV) diagnostics in a single platform. More...

The updated EndoPAT-MF Cardiovascular Health Assessment Platform features five major diagnostic tools in a single system. The tools include noninvasive measuring of endothelial function; the measurement of arterial stiffness via augmentation index; heart rate variability, which offers a window onto the Autonomic nervous system (ANS); leading risk score calculators such as the Framingham, Reynolds and SCORE calculators; and an integrated web-based platform, termed EndoCloud, which provides seamless and efficient patient diagnosis information transfer in a timely manner.

The presence of endothelial dysfunction in the coronary circulation highly predicts CV events in people in early stages of disease, beyond any conventional risk factors. Endothelial dysfunction is the earliest indicator of cardiovascular disease. If endothelium stressors are allowed to persist, the walls of the arteries begin to lose their elasticity and become hardened and thickened, reducing the supply of nutrient- and oxygen-rich blood to the tissues, including the heart. The EndoPAT test can help determine whether aggressive lifestyle changes or medication therapy are needed to reduce the risk of a heart attack or health related problems. The EndoPAT-MF Cardiovascular Health Assessment Platform is a product of Itamar-Medical (Caesarea, Israel).

“The fact that heart disease starts in the arteries and blood vessels makes EndoPAT a critical tool for early detection and continued physiological assessment of the health of the vascular system,” said Marvin Slosman, US President of Itamar-Medical. “More than half of all sudden cardiac deaths occur with no previous symptoms and cardiovascular disease continues to be the leading health risk in the US Our continued enhancements to EndoPAT offer a significant value in this next-generation tool set for early detection and analysis for patient, payer, provider, and physician.”

Peripheral Arterial Tone (PAT) signal technology noninvasively measures tone changes in peripheral arterial beds by using a pair of modified plethysmographic biosensors to record pulsatile volume changes in the distal two thirds of the fingers, including their tips. The data acquired is automatically processed, analyzed, and presented to the physician by proprietary software, facilitating the clinical decision making process.
