The kit also contains a carrying case, alcohol wipes, and pulse oximeter wraps to secure the Y-probe to the infant patient. Among the features of the oximeter are perfusion index trending and a rotatable color organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display. Neonatal pulse oximetry screening has become an import test used to screen for critical congenital heart defects (CCHDs), which account for nearly 3% of infant mortality during the first year of life and affects between seven and nine of every 1,000 newborns. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC; Atlanta, GA, USA), approximately 4,800 babies are born in the United States every year that have one of seven different CCHDs.
