Capnography Interface for Monitored Anesthesia

The device has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is designed for monitored anesthesia care (MAC) and for all other nonintubated patients in acute and nonacute environments.

Called the Smart MAC-Line O2, the device is the product of Oridion Systems Ltd. (Jerusalem, Israel). The company states that conventional technologies cannot match Smart MAC's ability to draw breath samples from both the nose and mouth and deliver oxygen simultaneously. Thus, they lack continuous monitoring, which impedes detection of potentially life-threatening adverse events, including apnea, ventilatory depression, and airway obstruction. The Smart MAC-Line is compatible with virtually all anesthesia gas machines and monitors.
