Central and Remote Monitoring Network

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 10 Apr 2003
A new monitoring network, S/5, offers clinicians access to full cardiac, hemodynamic, neurologic, and ventilation information both at a central station (iCentral) and at remote locations (iCentral Clients).

By providing access to information in real-time, the S/5 network will help healthcare teams make timely and informed decisions and thereby contribute to increased patient safety and quality of care. More...
The information provided is organized in concise organ-specific views in a logical, easy-to-use format. The views include real-time waveforms and numerics, trends, event history with snapshots, and full-disclosure information.

A more detailed review is provided by the time-sensitive link to full disclosure. Information distribution from the S/5 is based on advanced distributed component object model (DCOM) technology. This makes it possible to see the same information displayed on the S/5 iCentral remotely on the iCentral Clients in real-time, which facilitates consultation and surveillance. The full patient history is always accessible when the patient is moved from one department to another. All the information on the S/5 can also be stored electronically to be passed on to other archives, such as the hospital information system (HIS) or the electronic patient record (EPR).

In addition, the S/5 Pocket Viewer runs on a handheld pocket PC and connects wirelessly through a local area network (LAN) or mobile phone connection to the S/5 network for clinical information access. The products were introduced by the Datex-Ohmeda division of Instrumentarium (Helsinki, Finland) at the annual meeting of the Society of Critical Care and Emergency Medicine in Brussels (Belgium).
