Endoscopic System Reduces Procedure Costs by Half

The system includes a one-time-use disposable sheath, a 3-mm bundle of fiber optics, and a visualization source that can be reused up to ten times with careful handling. The cost of the system is 50% less than a normal endoscopic system and it is available off the shelf, thus aimed at physicians who do not require a cystoscopy or ureteroscopy for managing stone, kidney, and bladder procedures.

Among the benefits of the system are significant reductions in risk of patient-to-patient biological cross-contamination, due to the device’s disposable nature; elimination of the need for costly repairs and/or replacement of a scope if damaged; and an improved cost accounting on a per-case basis.
