By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 27 Mar 2006
A new compact patient monitor offers a number of advanced features, including a larger display and Windows dynamic network access (WinDNA).

The new monitor has full network compatibility with all existing process-control central and bedside monitors of Spacelabs Medical (Issaquah, WA, USA). More...
The UltraviewSL 2600 monitor will be available to hospitals worldwide.

A wireless networking option supports central surveillance during patient transport, when patients are often under greater stress and risk, enhancing patient safety and improving emergency response time. Together with Spacelabs' new clinical-event interface to pagers and other handheld devices, these capabilities serve to accelerate the flow of critical, time-sensitive patient information to caregivers, regardless of either patient or caregiver location.

"Spacelabs developed the UltraviewSL 2600 in response to customer needs for critical vital signs data, delivered and documented with speed, flexibility, and ease of access. Our goal is to help clinicians stay connected to information so they can keep the focus on patient care,” said Jonathan Lauer, vice president of global strategic marketing at Spacelabs Medical.

WinDNA allows clinicians to view and control Windows applications right on the patient monitor's display, eliminating the need for separate terminals in the patient's room. Nurses can check lab results and other reports, enter orders, review protocols, and do charting right at the patient's bedside. Input can be done using a mouse, keyboard, or touch-screen.
