Medical Records on a Keychain

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 20 Apr 2006
Patients managing chronic medical conditions, those in a hazardous occupation, and those who participate in high-risk sports can now access their medical records anywhere via a key chain.

The VitalChart secures personal health records, developed by Medcryption (Research Triangle Park, NC, USA), and enables patients to carry a secure and comprehensive copy of their entire medical history conveniently on a key chain. More...
A website collects the information for a patient's personal health record. Once all of the information is entered, the subscriber has the option to print the record in up to 13 languages or download it to a portable and waterproof USB key drive.

The USB drive, developed in collaboration with SanDisk (Sunnyvale, CA, USA), utilizes flash-drive technology to safely store the personal health record that is patient owned but managed by both patients and physicians. The information is encrypted with an algorithm approved for U.S. government files and communications marked Top Secret. Even if the USB key drive is lost or stolen, patient information is still protected.

VitalChart contains all of your personal health information--medical conditions, medications, allergies, emergency contacts, insurance information, and more--ensuring your information is with you at all times, said Gerry Lipscomb, CEO of Medcryption. The technology gives you the power to be in control of your health to make better decisions and have confidence that you will always receive the care you need.
